Group Classes

As well as our Pilates and Yoga classes we also run Tai-Chi for Health, Functional Fitness and Restorative and Yoga Nidra sessions.

Tai Chi for Health

In recent years, Tai Chi has been gaining recognition as a beneficial form of exercise for health.  The movements are fluid, gentle, relaxed and slow in tempo making Tai Chi suitable for most people. Regular practice of Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance, flexibility and strength, as well as positively affecting other aspects of health such as immunity and psychological well-being.

At TOPS we run an intermediate level class for those who have been practicing Tai Chi previously. If you are a beginner then we look forward to hearing from you also as we can offer you private sessions to then join the class.

Functional Fitness

The functional fitness class is a small group class run by Clare, one of our Physiotherapists. The class is suitable for elderly people looking to improve their balance, reduce the risk of falls and promote independence of the participants. This Physiotherapist-led session lasts one hour and includes warm-up, strengthening, balance, co-ordination and aerobic exercises in sitting and standing.    The cool down at the end includes adapted Tai Chi. The class is particularly suitable for older people with problems such as:

  • fear of falling or loss of confidence,
  • feeling unstable/ balance problems
  • history of falls
  • loss of fitness after injury or illness.

Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra

We are really pleased to be able to offer both restorative yoga and yoga nidra sessions at TOPS. Both of these sessions are suitable for all ability levels. The restorative yoga session is run by Sophia, our Iyengar Yoga instructor and runs on a fortnightly basis on a Friday afternoon. The yoga nidra session is run by Roosa, one of our yoga instructors and runs on a monthly basis on a Sunday afternoon.

Both of these sessions use equipment to provide a supportive and restorative session that are a perfect way to end a week.
