Conditions - Sports Injuries

As physiotherapists we are highly trained in the treatment and rehabilitation of new and ongoing sporting complaints. Sports injuries that result from a sudden event, often a direct impact or twisting action, are known as acute injuries. Common examples are

  • Ankle ligament sprains
  •  Knee or shoulder joint strains
  • Hamstring muscle tear

Other sporting injuries caused by overusing the same muscle groups or joints

are known as chronic injuries. For example

  •  Tennis elbow
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Shin splints

Your physiotherapist will assess, diagnose, treat and fully rehabilitate your injury. They may use manual techniques, electrotherapy and give you specific stretches or exercises.  Treatment will help reduce pain and movement restriction in the problem area and assist a good quality repair. Your physiotherapist will educate, advise and guide you through a rehabilitation programme to return to your full potential and minimise the risk of further injury.
